Yea that AIN was a mesmerizing fire to behold π₯

This was one of the tougher decisions. All I Need is like a plane taking off. It is the most steady build I can remember. But for thatch being such a testosterone driven song, it goes three different places seamlessly ending with the drive we expect.

They had no reason to be as patient as they were right off the heels of MSG. Thatch is the showcase of patience during a high-stakes concert, and AIN is the showcase of patience at a tour closer (when you'd expect them to be depleted from the energy of the previous show).
The hot, sticky sun was setting during the AIN, and it's palpable. I hope people can sense how they enveloped us in a sensory experience βΊοΈ
Voting Thatch because 16:37 is a stim in my brain (and because it's sedating, plugged-in, and special), but this AIN is incredibly intricate and deserves a good shake at JOTY

Well, Iβll say that @DSVT made a connection I hadnβt contemplated before. He has me listening to βBeautiful Jamβ from the Cap (1971-02-19).

This AIN definitely borrows on prior themes, not just from the Mountain Jam Echo. As another example, there's also the up-tempo, jazzy ,and shorter variation from the 10/29/21 Portland ME Echo. All of them absolutely "beautiful."
But then there's the original from 2/18/71, which some argue might be the best 5 minutes of one-off improvisational jam played. I'm not sure about that, but it is special and beautiful, indeed. As it is every time the boys dust it off and give it it's due. I know I'm biased because of the original, but this AIN really develops the theme into something more even the original.
Not trying to take away from a top-notch Thatch, that is probably under-seeded, and well deserving of re-listening (as most of these jams are). It definitely has a lot of ebb and flow that makes it a fun ride. But just not quite enough to overcome the emotional impact of the AIN.

B is spot on with his analysis. I'm with him

Canyon Dan with another poor take⦠AIN FTW

AIN. Everyone rightfully hypes the build but I think the section from about 5:00-10:00 is also pretty special (If someone wants to tell me itβs just a recycled jam from X Y and Z shows whatever I donβt really give a shit)
And of course the build. Rick and Trevor are on their own wavelengths throughout but somehow weave in and out of each otherβs lines perfectly to make magic. Also want to shout out Cotter for the restraint. We all love it when heβs busy on the kit but here heβs the steady force, basically playing the same thing thoughout but perfectly increasing the intensity of his playing and creating the perfect canvas for the others.

The Sweet 16, where "big city/venue" biases go to die.. the only blowout bigger than MKEMG over Philly Myst looks like its gonna be this one. Look out Chicago Tumble!

Battle of overrated, overhyped jams.

All I Need had that awesome jam surge Rick digging in and ripping.

Not fascinated by either. Neither is going into my elite playlist. No space for just good.
Voted All I Need. Generally donβt like the how I say, beautiful jams. But this one was nice. It had a few subtle smooth transitions that got my vote.
Thatch. Liked the funk danceable beginning but the back half bliss Iβve heard a thousand times.

To be honest Uncle Ebβ¦AIN is one of my absolute favorite goose songs, and Westville was the first time I ever saw it live (so one would think there would be strong bias in favor it)β¦.yet have no clue why this specific jam is so revered amongst the fan base. The jam didnβt do it for me live at the time, or listening to the boards after the show!

I could totally see this AIN hitting me like an emotional freight truck if I saw it live. Its very melancholic and transcendent. But as far as listening to recordings go, it's not doing much for me. This Thatch is a way more fun and creative jam. It gets my vote

Magnaball Tweezer. What a sick jam before they waved the white flag. But it was All I Need'd
Thatch isnt the "right kind" of "Jam". Too loud and brawny and doesn't stay in its lane. Not docile and well-behaved.

Why are so many of these consecutive shows? Why pit kin against kin.
This might be the hardest matchup yet (and yes, I know last matchup was decided by one person).
I could vote either way... might have to listen again (third time today).
I originally had the 6/29 All I Need higher than the 6/28 Thatch. Then Thatch took it. Then back to All I Need.
THIS LISTEN DECIDES IT

Lucky enough to see both of these live! Enjoyed the Thatch more in person but enjoy the All I Need much more when listening back. Gorgeous jam and gets my vote.

I was at both of these shows and love both of these jams. I like the beginning / middle sections of the thatch a lot more than the all I need. In the thatch I find myself waiting for when peter comes in at 8:02 and picks things up every time I relisten, a very fun and addicting segment. They then transition into a very emotional and goosebump inducing ending that includes great stuff from all the lads, not only Rick. As previously mentioned another round, 16:32, when cotter and Rick both pick things up at the same time is probably the moment that is most stuck in my head from 2025. That point to the end is spectacular.
I love this all I need, and at one point toward the end of the jam turned to my friend on GA floor and said βRickβs doing the thing!!β, but this jam is much more simple and repetitive than this thatch, and I was honestly surprised at how big of a following it has had in this tourney. That being said, I am happy however this goes down!

Both of these jams borrow ideas from other jams played less than a week ago (Thatch with Gilford Rockdale and AIN with Mountain Jam Echo). I think AIN does a better job at building on its borrowed theme and really tightening it down, while this Thatch feels a little watered down to ME, which is why Iβm going with AIN.
Side note, I feel like a big reason both these jams sound really satisfying is because they sound like theyβre going to go into other songs. Around the 14 minute mark of this Thatch, the band briefly sounds like theyβre gearing up into Running Up That Hill, and if it wasnβt already played in the show Iβd be expecting it. This AIN jam brings big βWhatβs Up?β energy and I was almost certain that they were using the jam as a segueway into it when I live-streamed this show.

Loved the thatch in person but not as impactful listening back. The AIN is much more interesting throughout and could win it all

Beauty over beast, voting Westville All I Need all the way. It was cool hearing Peter talk about this one a bit on the pod too.

I'm not as enthusiastic about this All I Need as many others appear to be. There's that very cool reverb/tremolo transition between the structured beginning of the song and the bliss jam that happens right around the 5:00 mark, but then by 10:00β¦ they kinda settle into that melodic space and just ride it out. I had Pancakes beating this All I Need in the next round, so what do I know.
This Thatch, however, is quite spicy⦠and has moved up on my list a lot since we started all of this (it was ranked somewhere in the bottom half of my picks). I don't want to vote it on because it was from MSG, but I don't not want to vote it on because it was from MSG. I definitely dig the funky space they find early on, and then that blissy Reba jam they lock in on next. The Rick shred-fest is hot sauce for sure, but it is also controlled and doesn't go off the tracks.
Maybe it's time for a little Thatch redemptionβ¦and another 4 seed/ 1 seed upset? I definitely think this Thatch is the more interesting choice here.

This Thatch is IT. It is my JOTY. The jam hits me more than any other song from 2025 does. If get sent to an island with an ipod shuffle that incredulously only has one song that I can have on it, I'm choosing Thatch MSG. It just gives me ALL THE FEELS. Clearly I'm in the minority here, and that's ok. I'll still be jamming to this one in perpetuity.
With that being said, I am more than ok with this AIN forging ahead. Great, great, great jam. After that weekend in the northeast, my three faves were the Gilford Rockdale, this Thatch, and the AIN. So glad one of them will have survived into the Elite 8!

Toronto Pancakes should be here and have smoked this AIN

Was at both shows. Thatch was indeed a "moment". Maybe MOTY? But AIN was slow boil Goose jam perfection. AIN FTW.
@6ROM7 put it perfectly. I was at the westville show and it is a top tier AiN and jam in general but absolutely overrated. Same with the thatch but thatch never should have beaten Toronto pancakes
1 week ago
Was there at MSG for this Thatch and despite attendance bias, Westville AIN is far away (imho) the jam that I will listen to again and again (like cap Myst, my most listened to track on Spotify).

Silly match.
An overrated but massive fan-favorite Need vs. a big-show-biased average Thatch that shouldnβt have even made it to the last round.
Iβll be shocked if Need doesnβt take >80%. (Iβd say Need is at risk if it doesnβt.)
Also, be more like The Captain, distinguishing between MY and OUR: βIt's not *MY* JOTY of the Year but I wouldn't be mad it it were *OUR* JOTY of the Yearβ

Thatch is a great Rick moment, AIN is an all-time band moment.

AIN is so feel good, builds the whole time and has an awesome peak
Thatch feels different though. Deep emotion coming from Rick. I am far more intrigued by this jam and minute 14 through 19 is something truly special. Going with Thatch

MSG Thatch is probably on my own personal Mount Rushmore of all time Goose performances. What Captain Incredible said about AIN that it "massages my brain stem and am addicted to it"... oddly enough is exactly how I feel about this Thatch. It does some subliminal wizardry to me that I can't explain.
Also realize it's probably the end of the line for it here for the general public, and that's okay. Everyone should be lucky enough to have their own personal pieces of music that give them goosebumps like this one does for me. It's why music is the best.

This AIN was a patient whole band jam build that latched onto some ideas thrown out by Trevor and Peter.
It is goose at its finest. When they find that pocket of bliss to build around.
It covers a wide array of ground in a shorter length of jam.
This jam almost has a βrocking with Charlie Brown and friendsβ feel to it once they all lock into the same idea.
It reaches its triumphant peak and quietly fades away as quickly as it arose.
Having been at the show, I was able to drink in the moment, as the collective fans had dropped their jaws as well.
It held up immediately on relistens, and still does to this day.
The way I see it, it was the JOTY, in a year of great music.
February was well represented in the bracket this year, and rightfully so, but I think this summer blockbuster has what it takes to bring home the title!
Neither of these stood out to me this year?
The AIN does some things i like when goose does but also felt a little forced, similar to goosemas madhuvan.
Thatch wants to be the best thing from MSG but gets eclipsed by the first set horns songs and red bird in retrospect.
Super close matchup - warrants a full rewatch for me at this point

This thatch has no business being here, AIN by a mile

Westville AIN all the way!
It's not *MY* JOTY of the Year but I wouldn't be mad it it were *OUR* JOTY of the Year
Something happens right around the 10:30-11:00'ish mark on this one that massages my brain stem and I am addicted to it

AIN is a gorgeous jam and gets my vote here. Thatch is always good but this version isn't even the best of 2025.

Bliss v Bliss.
Both of these jams mean something deeply personal to me. They were the stand outs from two amazing nights having traveled over especially from the UK.
AIN was the front runner early on, pure joy. After a slow first set in Westville (understandable after breaking curfew the night before) this jam patiently formed in the scorching early evening heat. And peaks as a triumph nod to what they achieved the night before.
As many have said, Thatch was the best jam from MSG. The theme they hit on is confident but not cocky. A real We Made It moment, proving they belong on that stage. Rick soars and they land back into the song perfectly. The more I listen back, thereβs more to appreciate here in the layers. Thatch gets the nod for me here.
I canβt wait for Euro tour!

How am I supposed to pick between these two perfect jams. Thatch is more than a Rick solo and absolutely stellar bliss, open your ears people! All I Need on a Sunday in Westville was truly special, immaculate weather. Cant go wrong either way

One day apart but IMO on a completely different level. Thatch was the best jam of MSG, but not even top 5 of the weekend.
